The purpose of ‘In-between the Lines’ was to create a dress that can be outfitted down for casual day wear but can also be dressed up for a party or dinner. The dress is marketed towards women ages 10-30 who enjoy looking put together even on casual outings. She loves to keep up with the latest trends, get brunch with her girlfriends, and stroll through the park. ‘In-between the Lines’ was created through the use of flat patterns that were drafted on CAD technology software. Design lines on the dress include a bust dart, jewel neckline, boxy silhouette and ties that connect the skirt and top. In-between the Lines is made out of 100% cotton sateen fabric with original textile print design utilizing a digital textile printer and non-toxic dyes. The lines from the New York City skyline inspired the design of the textile print. The charcoal lines on the skirt represent the intertwining of countless buildings and skyscrapers throughout the city. Tucked into different parts of city are parks to escape to, portrayed by the green lined top. The knotted together top and bottom represent the contrast between building architecture and nature, and how the two intermingle throughout the city to create a beautiful, harmonious environment. ‘In-between the Lines’ ties to the conference theme, “Financial Fitness: Trends, Innovations, & Impacts” by being a financially wise decision for myself. As a design student, the development of our own fabric was affordable because I was able to utilize the technologies and materials that were provided by the apparel program. Pictures of ‘In-between the Lines’ are shown on page two of this document.
